Villa gardens
In villa gardens the project covers paths, trees, lawns, borders and the relationship with the lake. We respect what is already there and bring out its best.
Lake Como has one of the richest garden traditions in Italy, and a special place in our work: here, in Cernobbio, our installation “Ciclicità lunare” won the Foglia d’Oro at Orticolario. We design gardens and terraces for villas and homes on the lake, with terracing, views over the water and plants suited to the mild climate of the Lario, as the lake is also known.
Book a site visitThe lake moderates the climate: milder winters than on the plain, less sultry summers and a humidity that suits many species. That is why olive trees, citrus and exotic plants grow along its shores next to camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons, which find ideal conditions in the acidic soils.
The shores, however, are often steep, and gardens are built on terraces. The design has to reconcile slopes, drainage, access and views over the water, and measure up to a tradition of historic gardens of great value.
We follow projects on Lake Como from our Monza studio, with site visits, our presence on site and scheduled maintenance.
Roberto Landello is a garden designer with studios in Monza and Lignano Sabbiadoro. From our Monza studio we design and build gardens and terraces on Lake Como too, following every project in person: from the first site visit and the choice of plants to construction and maintenance.
Our work starts with plants. Roberto grew up in his family’s nursery in Lignano Sabbiadoro and trained at the Scuola Agraria del Parco di Monza; Luca, our technical lead, combines a background in construction with training in agronomy and arboriculture.
The lake is part of our story: Orticolario, at Villa Erba in Cernobbio, is the international competition where we received our most important award. In 2017 our installation “Ciclicità lunare” won the Foglia d’Oro del Lago di Como award at Orticolario, and our projects have been featured in Gardenia, Casa in Fiore and Terrazzi e balconi.

Terraces and penthouses with custom planters, plants that thrive in the mild climate and light screening that keeps the view open.
The lakeshores are often steep. Terracing, low walls and steps turn the slope into a sequence of spaces looking out over the water.
The humid climate and acidic soils found around much of the lake are ideal for camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons, the stars of its historic gardens.
What clients ask us most often before starting a project.
Yes. Before doing any work we study what is already there, including the trees and plants worth keeping, and propose how to enhance the garden, in stages if you prefer.
Yes. With terracing, low walls, steps and paths we turn the slope into usable spaces, taking care of drainage and access.
The mild climate allows olive trees, citrus and Mediterranean plants; where the soil is acidic, camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons do beautifully. As garden designers on Lake Como, we choose them after the site visit.
It is an event devoted to quality gardening, held at Villa Erba in Cernobbio. In 2017 our installation “Ciclicità lunare” won the “La Foglia d’Oro del Lago di Como” award.
Yes. We follow the build with site supervision and can set up a scheduled maintenance service.
With a site visit: we look at the space, the slopes and the views, listen to what you need and take measurements and photos for the preliminary design.
